Don't Twitter that Critter*

By Fred King, aka Rapper Z39.50

I'm Z39.50 the librarian
And I come to educate you every now and then
Put down your books pay attention to me
While I tell you 'bout intellectual property

If you think an article costs too much
And the publishers are just out of touch
Well tweeting for an article has one big flaw
Most of the time you're breaking the law

Title 17 is the US Law
That protects what you publish, you sing or you draw
It's US Code and you can get it online
So obey the law, don't go over the line

Come on now, don't twitter that critter
Come on now, don't twitter that critter
Come on now, don't twitter that critter
D-D-D-D-D-Don't

If you get all your articles by tweeting on twitter
Journal circulation goes into the [toilet]
The journal goes bankrupt and then it will fold
All because you didn't want to part with some gold

If you want to get an article, just come to me
Your borrowing expert in the library
We apply fair use, section 107
And shower you with articles like manna from heaven

We track our borrowing, we keep it legal
We account for our use with the eye of an eagle
So don't get your articles by tweeting on twitter
'Cause a copyright enforcer is a heavy hitter

Come on now, don't twitter that critter
Come on now, don't twitter that critter
Come on now, don't twitter that critter
D-D-D-D-D-Don't
